Lunch/picnic spot w/dogs on way to Duck/Sanderling

We are heading to the beach (Sanderling) on a Sunday and need a place to stop for lunch. We are traveling with 2 dogs. Used to go to Coastal Provisions in SouthernShores, but they aren't open on Sunday's, now. Checkin is at 4. We usually arrive on Rt 12 around noon.

Any recommendations?

Shady spots for a picnic we bring, restaurant that allows dogs (outside OK as long as shady), other??

Check out the Duck Town Park. Lots of shady spots, very dog friendly. You can also walk down the boardwalk and get something to eat at Coastal Cantina, which is kind of a food bar with outside seating on the boardwalk. Tommy's and Wee Winks both have delis where one of you could pop in and get sandwiches to go. Duck Deli and Wave Pizza both have some outside seating, but I'm not sure whether those are dog friendly.

If you went to Coastal before you can still go there since there is Southern Shores Pizza there now and they have sandwiches and, of course, pizza.

Something to consider before you get to the bridge: currituck bbq in Barco. It's about 45 min drive from barco to the Wright Memorial Bridge. Currituck bbq opens at 11 am, and they have this great outdoor picnic pavilion that is perfect to go to with your dogs. You go inside to order at the counter then bring the deliciousness outside. I love their desserts, usually have a terrific fruit cobbler with ice cream of course.

It is on the left when you are heading east toward wmb, there is a big neon sign with pig in chef hat on it.

We usually bring the dogs and try to time arrivals and departures so we can stop at currituck bbq.

Thanks! Wave pizza opens at noon on Sunday. Any idea when they start to get busy on Sunday? Thinking we will try this.

@JoyinVa--we've seen currituck BBQ and considered it. Only thing is we are trying to get closer into Duck before stopping. Also, being in the "leaving" side of the road makes it a little more difficult to get to, but not impossible. We might still try.

I would get there early and snag a picnic table. Someone can hang and you can walk the boardwalk with the dog.
