Bear Habitat in Cherokee

Does anyone know if they have re-opened the bear habitat and the connected stores or if they are going to? What happened and why did they close it down?

It was shut down because of inhumane treatment of bears. I visited over 20 years ago and was shocked it was open then.

They had the bears in concrete cages. They were shut down because of the cruelty.

I think Bob Barker was behind the effort to close them down.

Well, big thanks to Bob Barker if that's true. It was a horrid place and should have been shut down long ago.

If you want to see captive bears, Grandfather Mountain does a pretty good job with their natural habitats. Alternately a lot of people see wild ones at Cades Cove in the Smokies.
