Cape Range and Karijini in mid-October

My partner and I are planning a 10-day trip to Karijini and Cape Range NP in mid-October. We would like some advice on transport and accommodation please.

We are planning to fly from Perth to Learmonth (arrive at midday), rent a 2WD at the airport and start to make our way to Karijini but spend the night somewhere on the way. Then we spend 3 nights in Karijini (camping at the eco-retreat), and maybe a 4th night in Tom Price on our way back to Cape Range. There we plan to spend 2-3 nights camping in the park, and maybe 1 or 2 nights in Exmouth for a break from camping (but still going to the park to snorkel). Then return the car at Learmonth and fly back to Perth.

1) the rental car person said we can drive in unsealed but gazetted roads. Are the roads up to the Karijini Eco-Retreat, and to the main gorges gazetted?

2) is there any place to spend a night between Exmouth and Karijini, since we probably won't be able to make it to the park (or even Tom Price) in half day?

3) is our itinerary reasonable? We also thought about fliying to PBD, renting a car there and then dropping in Exmouth but couldn't find a rental car company that operates at both places.

Thanks in advance!

As no one has answered I’ll bump this all ng. I haven’t been recently but here goes:

1.a stop off- this road house is a possibility but does get mixed reviews. They have cabins.

The Tom Price caravan park gets better reviews if you can make it there.

Are you staying in Coral Bay as well as Exmouth?

Karijini- I would have thought that those gravel roads (the 2WD ones) are gazetted access roads.

Hi JeanPerth,

Thank you very much for your reply and helpful links.

We decided to go to Cape Range upon arrival and then head to Karijini for the second half of the trip. Then, we plan to spend a night in Exmouth and drive early to either Tom Price or the Eco-resort - do you think the latter is feasible in one day?

Europcar told us we can drive the 2WD in gazetted unsealed roads, so access to at least a few gorges in Karijini should be fine; we'll check with the park management the road conditions when we get there and plan accordingly. Will def take extra fuel there too.

Also currently deciding what campsites to book in Cape Range; we are in a tent and would like to avoid noisy/party people and generators, but would also like to have easy access to the reef. I could find very limited information regarding what camps are usually quiet, so I may just book in Osprey for the 3 nights we'll spend there.

We're not going to Coral Bay this time.

Thanks again
