Non gaming hotel near the strip?

My son and his girlfriend, ages 20 and 19, plan to visit LV for 1 or 2 nights on a two week road trip. They want to stay close to the Strip w/o breaking the bank. They don't have a lot of $$$ and want to visit before he deploys oversees. I would rent a room with my credit card, but then I would have to be there and that isn't happening. Any helpful thoughts and suggestions would be great.. Thanks.

Non gaming hotels arent necessarily cheaper than casino hotels. So keep that in mind.

Walking distance would be:

Platinum

Westin

Elara

Jockey Club

Trump

There are your travelodge/motel 6 types but I wouldnt recommend those.

Since they would be driving, they can look off-strip hotels for cheap finds. Some will be with casinos but thats ok.

Have them check out:

Southpoint

Palace Station

Orleans

Silverton

These hotels can be around $45-60 on weekdays.

He won't be able to check into a gambling hotel since he is under 21, he is only 20 yrs old.

I think his problem is that you have to be 21 to check into a gaming resort, so the kids need a non-gaming hotel...not that I can help....just clarifying for above poster

Really? I used to check in stateline and other vegas hotels while I was in college. I was 20 around that time. This was over 15years ago, I would think they wouldnt get stricter.

ok sorry about that. I thought you could since I dont remember that being an issue back then. Maybe they just let us slide back then.

The choices would be on the West side of the 15fwy. All the Holiday Inns, etc are on that side of town. Theres plenty of choices in that area.

There are a couple of Marriotts (I think a Fairfield and a Courtyard) very close which will both be just fine. The Staybridge Suites is also in the same block and is just fabulous, though a little more expensive. These 3 are very close to the strip, and I'd be happy to stay at any of those.

The Platinum and Signature definitely come to mind, you can get great deals with those, and both are non gaming, as is Trump, which would be another treat.

If you really want to pay for their room you could buy an MGM gift certificate and they could use it at Vdara.

How about the Desert Rose Resort? I'm not sure of price but the minimum age to occupy is 18.

Here are three very different options

Super 8 on Koval. Should be cheap. Easy 10 walk to the center of the strip.

Holiday Inn Express on Russle: Very nice, free breakfast. shuttle to Mandalay.

Vdara: Fancy-smancy. Smack dab in the heart of the strip. I bit pricy(especially when you include the resort fee.) But if Mom wants to open her pocketbook.

PS - Thank your son for his service from all of us.
