This one in front of the Cosmo.
I tell you what, Vegas doesn't need this bad PR. "Fatal stabbing on Las Vegas Strip" makes headlines, and might turn tourists away, or even worse, turn away convention planners.
Two fatalities in a couple of weeks might just be an aberration, a quirk of statistics. But if this turns out to be a continuing pattern, the police presence on the Strip will have to increase. Vegas can't afford this sort of PR.
I doubt anybody is going to stab me in front of the Cosmo. I suspect I face more danger in the city where I live and work. Vegas is a city. There's crime, same as every urban area in the US. If it comes out this is some crazed psycho who indiscriminately stabs tourists, I'll be surprised.
We were in a late night crowd during Pride week in San Fransisco a year ago when there was a fatal shooting -- think we're going to stay away from there? No way - that just comes with traveling to big cities, although I have to say we are skipping Mexico these days...
go to any city in the world and you`ll find this ........you have to be aware of your surroundings everywhere
Although it is surprising that there would be 2 such incidents in such a short time period, I have to say that in following the national news for years and years (and such Vegas stories always make major headlines), I recall only one other such incident (one or two years ago) and NONE OTHER THAN THOSE ON THE STRIP... It seems to me that, considering the incredible number of people (many of whom have had a drink or five) on the streets and streaming in and out of the casinos, the Las Vegas Strip is incredibly safe and free from criminal activity. I know that that's not true of other certain other parts of Vegas (and I don't include Downtown, which is very safe), but I think the police and the casinos and the City do a remarkable job re: the Strip, which is their "bread and butter" of existence. So I don't think anyone has to be afraid... Go and enjoy yourself, but don't be reckless is good advice I think.
