Any suggestions for kayak float trips?

I am looking for suggestions for renting kayaks for a 1/2 day float trip not too far from St. Louis.

(Preferably 2 hours away max.) Will have some novice teenagers so we are looking for something, well, for novices. The difficulty I am having is that I will have my 8 year old so I will need a double kayak, and everyone seems to have only single kayaks available.I did find something on Grafton on the Illinois river, but I am not sure I want to venture on that big of a river. (?)

Thanks!

Your best bet will be the Meramec river. We usually go through blue springs ranch, but there are MANY companies that float the Meramec and most have kayaks, canoes, and rafts

I agree with the Meramec - good for novices and there are lots of outfitters. I would definitely avoid the Illinois for novices just because it's so deep and there are big boats on that river. The Black River might also be a good choice. Not sure about renting a two-man kayak...
