Christmas Day 2018

Can I take wine from Australia to Norfolk Island for consumption on the island? We only want to take 2 bottles.

Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg

Yes, you can. But as you leave from an international airport (even though it's a domestic flight) you'll have to pack it in your checked in bags because of liquid restrictions, then just declare it on arrival.

The alternative is to buy it at duty free after you clear security at either Sydney or Brisbane, but you'll have to show some ID - preferably a passport. You probably already know that a photo ID is required for travel, but a passport is recommended to prevent delays.

But I have read that many people have travelled without passports with no problems. However, if for any reason the plane had to be diverted to Auckland then it could complicate things for people without passports.

Enjoy your trip.

Hi Greg

We've just returned.

agree - yes you can. you can pack it in your luggage or buy at the duty free shops after clearing customs/immigration at Sydney International. There is also a liquor store on the island which has Australian and other wines/spirits available - one purchase at duty free rates. There is locally made liquers (very nice).

Norfolk Island is an external territory of Australia - so yes it is a domestic flight with benefits!

Returning to the mainland you are entitled to bring 2.25 litres back duty free.

We had a lovely time - great snorkelling too!

Hi again Greg

Was assuming you're arriving on Christmas Day so the Bond Store won't be open. Just an addition to sandrewk's info - the duty free prices at the Bond Store on Norfolk only apply to spirits - not to wine - but there is a good selection of wine available - as long as it's open, of course!
