Lake of Ozark Mixed ages first timers...

We are a family ranging from 60ish to 17 that has rented a house on the lake near mile marker 35. We will need calm for some as well as trying to keep the teenagers busy. Where are some off the beaten path places we must see? Not tourist attractions!!! We like small places. Any thoughts?

Ha Ha Tonka - Castle ruins. It is a state park. Nice hiking trails.

Bear Bottom restaurant has a water slide.

Ha Ha Tonka can be busy during the summer months depending on what day/time you are there, but I would recommend anyways. It's a beautiful place and even if it's busy there are plenty of hiking trails to spread out on.

Unfortunately the Lake of the Ozarks is kind of one big tourist attraction. Lots of go karts, mini golf, shopping, food choices etc. Plenty of nice restaurants on the water, but they are all going to be busy during summer months.

We like visiting wineries while we're at the lake. A quieter one is Sugar Loaf winery in Camdenton (quiet side of the lake). They offer tastings as well as wines by the glass/bottle - and have a nice lunch menu with sandwiches and pizza. It's a very pretty location overlooking the water from up high. They also offer kayak rentals. I believe they are open just Thursdays through Sundays 11:30am to 8pm.
