Portland, Maine to New Brunswick

We are traveling from Portland Int. Jetport arriving around 11:30 a.m. picking up rental car then driving to New Brunswick. We need suggestions about where to stay either in Maine along I95 or N.B. the first night.

Please help us determine what is realistic as well suggestions for specific B&B and/or hotels.

Thank you

Portland Maine to the Maine-New Brunswick border at Calais is just over 4 hrs of drive time. Are you sight-seeing along the way, or driving through Maine on your way to NB? Make sure your rental agency allows you to take the car into Canada.

Remember as soon as you cross the border into New Brunswick, the time will advance one hour from Eastern to Atlantic time zone (good to remember in case of reservations). Remember to pack your passports too. You will need them to re-enter the U.S.

Not sure where you are going in New Brunswick, but if you are looking for a place to stay near the border, but still in Maine, I can certainly recommend the Greystone B&B in Calais. We stay there every chance we can, and were just there at the end of December. Wonderful rooms, delicious breakfasts and gracious hosts. http://www.greystonecalaisme.com/

Thank K.C. Your post is very helpful.

We will be driving directly to the Calais/St. Stephen area. Thank you for the time zone tip! We do carry our passports. and will definitely check about bringing a rental car into Canada.

Is there enough to do in that area to warrant a 2 day stay i.e. whale watching, touring, St. Andrews etc. Any help pertaining to lodging and sights would be helpful.

St. Andrews is a beautiful spot. There are whale watching tours available, I do believe. Check the website for tourism New Brunswick at

www: tourismnewbrunswick.ca for up to date advice on lodging and attractions. You also may be interested in the area arounde St. Martins, gateway to the Fundy Trail http://www.stmartinscanada.com/ and the sea caves, walks etc. St. Martins is approximately 80 miles from St. Andrews.

The Salmon River B&B http://www.salmonriverbandb.com/ in St. Martins is extremely popular
