Dog-Friendly Camping with the Hermit Island Experience

Could someone please help me re-create a great childhood memory for my boyfriend? He went to Hermit Island with his family when he was an adoloscent and loved it. We're trying to take a long weekend to Hermit Island (or somewhere close with the same feel) and Acadia NP, but I just found out Hermit Island won't allow our dog during peak season. Any suggestions to attempt to re-create the same type of memory at a nearby campground that has the same feel as Hermit Island but is pet-friendly? How about Georgetown, ME?
