Hard Rock Hotel

I previously stayed here and was an ideal location, I have read somewhere that they have now closed and a new hotel has taken it's place. Can anyone help with new hotels name?

It is not open yet. Taking reservations in August right now. May be earlier.

It’s not like the Hard Rock was old and run down. I stayed there weeks after it opened.

I remember checking in when they had a DJ spinning music in the lobby bar with the volume turned up to 11. Had to roll your luggage through the small “dance floor”.

If you need another in that location with a modern and contemporary before August: The Virgin, The Langham, Wyndham Grand, Raddison Aqua Blue. Try another neighborhood. The Thompson, The Viceroy or Soffitel in the Gold Coast are in a great neighborhood on the north end of "The Magnificent Mile". The Peninsula, Park Hyatt and Waldorf Astoria are in the same area.

There's a Hampton Inn at 68 E. Wacker Place, right across the street to the north of the Hard Rock Hotel/St. Jane

The Hotel Monaco is a block away. It's very nice and well regarded here.

99% of the hotels are located in a very small portion of the city. Just take a look at a map which shows where they are.

Just so you realize, when others talk about the hotels being "central", that doesn't mean that it is necessarily easily walkable to all the major tourism attractions and museums in Chicago. It means that they are "central" for travel from the airports/railroad stations and going to those. You will most likely use busses for those attractions which are on/near the lakefront, and you might use the 'L system for going to the outlying neighborhoods (but not for points immediately in the "tourist areas" of the "downtown").

For example, if you are staying at the top of the Magnificent Mile, it would be about 3 miles one way south to the Museum Campus; from the Loop, it is about 2 miles, depending on where you originate your walk. If you are planning on going to Wrigley Field, it's about 3.5 miles to that area; and many take the Red or Brown Line 'Ls - although you could take busses if you are combining the trip with other items. Navy Pier is a mile east of the Magnificent Mile (and it is about a mile long). The Museum of Science and Industry is one of the furthest attractions, being 7 miles south of the loop.

When you are looking at the map of the hotels, many will also include icons for the attractions and museums. Or, since you would be using the CTA, you might take a look at their online map - although it won't show you where the hotels are - just the bus/train routes and the attractions/museums.
