First time visit

Husband and I have been to Orlando, but have always wanted to visit St. Petersburg. We have a sister that lives in Merritt Island, and other than that, we would hope to go to a Rays game, and possibly to Busch Gardens. We are both planning to retire next summer, so we are tentatively thinking of visiting in the fall. Is there a best time to visit? What about hurricane season? We are looking to stay at the Hollander hotel, and will probably drive down (we live in the Midwest). Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Autumn is a nice time to visit.

The Atlantic Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30, but some years, there are no hurricanes or tropical storms that threaten the area at all.

September can still be hot and humid. The weather usually dries out in Oct. and there are light winds but still nice and warm. The Tampa Lightning and Tampa Bucs also play during this time. Good sightseeing and beach weather. The weather in Nov. is a little cooler but still very nice. These 2 months and April and May are my favorites. There are always festivals, open air markets and special events going on. Contact http://www.visittampabay.com/
