Ft. Walton Beach or Destin without a car

Which would be a better area without a car? We want to be able to walk to restaurants and be on a nice beach. Looking at going in February.

Neither area are really good pedestrian areas. Baytown area has a shuttle that takes you to restaurants on property. This area is best enjoyed with a car- can you rent one? You are going to really restrict yourself otherwise. Consider Seaside where you can bike around or walk.

PF is right in that Destin is pretty spread out. If you must be without a car, then Sandestin might work for you. They have a shuttle that takes you the length of the resort, which would include Grand Boulevard and Baytowne Wharf. Plenty of restaurants in those areas, but you will be missing a lot of Destin that way.

Ft. Walton/Okaloosa Island is a big no without a car, in my opinion.

btw, not all parts of Sandestin are on the beach, if that is important to you and you decide to stay there. It will be pretty cool for beach sitting, but walking should be okay.

There are at least 7 restaurants on Okaloosa Island near the highway 98 end. The closer you stay to there the shorter the walk.

The Boardwalk is not far past there but if the weather takes a nasty turn then walking anywhere might be problematic.

Forgot to mention that if weather permits and you can walk over Brooks Bridge in to town then in addition to the Publix grocery store you have beau-coup choices in dining!
