Girls Getaway

Some friends and I want to have a nice girls beach weekend! We are in our mid 30's, love the beach, want to relax with good food, and nice hotel, and maybe a bar or two. We've grown up going to OC and want something a little different, not as quite as Bethany but not as loud as OC. Is Dewey the place for us? Thanks!!!!

Dewey very well might be the place for you, but it is a small town without many hotels. Check out the list of Dewey Beach hotels here on TA to see if any are to your liking.

Alternatively, you should also look at Rehoboth, just north of Dewey. There are more hotel/motel/B&B choices there. Between Rehoboth and Dewey, you will have many, many choices of bars and restaurants, depending on what type of food, music, and bar scene you are looking for.

Rehoboth is much smaller than OCMD. Their boardwalk only has maybe 2 dozen shops/businesses.

Shopping is more centered along "the Avenue" leading into/out of town. It is more upscale, and this is reflected in the shopping and particularly the dining options, but there are all types of stores and restaurant/bars. Dewey and Rehoboth are as close to each other as Fenwick I is to OCMD, so no need to decide between the two. Main difference is that Dewey has bayfront venues like OCMD; Rehoboth doesn't.

Dewey has great nightlife and it's bars attract a younger crowd in the eves.

Rehoboth sound like a place suited to your needs especially since it is so close to Dewey. There is a a trolley which runs between the towns called the Jolly Trolley in case you don't want to drive at night. The restaurants in Rehoboth are amoung some of the best with amazing cocktails. The Tanger Outlets are always a good bet for a girls weekend-(tax-free.) For more trip ideas check out: visitdelaware.com/things-to-do/…

Enjoy your stay!!

Both seem to get good reviews here. But your experience will be completely different depending on what you choose.

Bay Resort in Dewey is on the bay side. Dewey is only two blocks wide, so to get from the bay side to the ocean block you have to cross a four-lane highway that goes through town. If you're renting chairs and an umbrella on the beach, maybe it's not such a big deal.

The Admiral in Rehoboth is a hop, skip, and a jump from the Boardwalk and the ocean. MUCH better location if you're planning on spending time on the beach. Closer to schlep your beach chairs and coolers, MUCH closer to run back to the room for something you forgot or to use the facilities.

Baltimore Ave. is a fabulous location in Rehoboth. It's just a block off Rehoboth Ave, the heart of town. In the first two blocks, Baltimore Ave. has some outstanding restaurants: Eden (upscale), Jam (bistro), a(MUSE.) (indescribable but sublime), Blue Moon, Cafe Azafran.

Honestly, I think you've outgrown the Dewey Beach scene, based on the way you describe what you're looking for. Rehoboth is plenty lively for singles who aren't just out of school, and the shopping, dining, and bar scene are considerably more adult. JMHO, but I always have one!
