Ice Lake trail wildlife.

I plan on hiking the Ice Lake Basin Trail alone in the summer. What wildlife do I need to lookout for? Thank you

That's a beautiful trail! If you're lucky, you may see bighorn sheep, mule deer, or elk. Although I've hiked it about 4-5 times and camped up there as well, I've never spotted any of these larger animals. :-( Lots of birds, though. Various types of jays, mountain bluebirds, ravens, woodpeckers...

Have a great time and good luck on spotting something really cool!

You're likely to see marmots, maybe ptarmigan, and little chipmunk type ground squirrel critters...not sure the exact species.

Moose sightings are rare but possible.

You should be "bear aware" but it is fairly unlikely you'll encounter one. Same with mountain lions. (I've lived in SW Colorado and been up into the mountains for many years and have only seen one, and it was on the run.) The Colorado Parks and Wildlife has good info: …state.co.us/learn/Pages/LivingwithWildlifeC…
