6 day trip to Denver and around to see Fall colors

Me and my wife with our 1 year old baby are planning a trip to Colorado end of Sep and early October to watch Fall colors and enjoy Colorado beauty.

Our idea is to get a car and drive around the nice scenic roads, mountains and places of Colorado. At this time we are looking for tips for a itinerary. Any help would be grateful.

We only have 4 days apart from departure and arrival day and we are not thinking about hiking, climbing, biking or any physical activity due to our young baby. We just want to drive and enjoy Colorado. :)

Thanks a lot

Two options in very different parts of the state:

1.Independence Pass.

You can start or end in Aspen. It will take you through quaint mountain towns, passed some amazing peaks, over the Continental Divide, and past a ghost town. You can walk around in the ghost town if you wish but it's hilly so coming back up to your car with a baby is doable but some hard work. We like to start by going through Leadville, having a picnic at Twin Lakes and then heading up the pass. Then you'll end in Aspen and can tour the town before heading back to town. This is an easy day trip.

Here is the Google Map of this location:

2. Buena Vista, CO

This is a 2 hour 45 min drive from Denver so you could do it in a day but it would be a really long day. We prefer to camp down there. There is a KOA that offers cabins with real beds which you may prefer with a baby. From Buena Vista there are several drives you can take into the Pike and San Isabel National Forests.

Enjoy your time here!
