Town of Sonoma or yountville

We are going to have 3 nights in wine country in September. Group of ten people. Last year we stayed at the lavender inn in yountville and loved it. We are all foodies so we loved walking to the amazing restaurants. We can't decide if we should try a new town or go back to yountville. We love B&Bs, good food, wine and to be able to walk to dinner. Do you think we would enjoy Sonoma? Are there enough good restaurants for 3 nights?

Thanks!!!

Sure, Sonoma has plenty of fine restaurants. Besides Sante' at the Sonoma Mission Inn which has a Michelin star, there are three Sonoma restaurants that were honored with the Bib Gourmand award for 2012:

The Hot Box Grill, The Girl and the Fig, and La Salette

The Girl and the Fig was recently shown on the TV show The Bachelor.

There are several others too such as the Carneros Bistro and Cafe' la Haye. For comfort food, we also like Murphys Irish Pub and the Hopmonk Tavern.

You should look at Healdsburg too. There's great restaurants there and you would be close to the wineries of northern Sonoma county.

Of course, you can't go wrong with Yountville either. I'm sure you didn't try all the restaurants there on your last visit and there are some new ones too.

Great to know, thanks! I've been looking into healdsburg and that looks really nice too. Now it's between healdsburg and Sonoma. For our base for 3 days, which do you think has a better location? We did napa (not Calistoga yet) last time. So we are thinking Sonoma, Russian river maybe Calistoga and Alexander valley.

Both Sonoma and Healdsburg have great locations. Sonoma is closer to Napa and San Francisco. Healdsburg is closer to the coast and the redwoods at Armstrong Grove.

Sonoma is your best bet if you are interested in visiting wineries in the Sonoma Valley and the Carneros District. You can even drive over from Glen Ellen to Oakville via the Oakville/Trinity Rd. and visit the Napa Valley and return via Hwy 29/12 to Sonoma.

Healdsburg is more convenient to the Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Calistoga.

I'd do Healdsburg, and try to get reservations to eat at Cyrus.

Healdsburg and Cyrus are both awesome! We like the Hotel Healdsburg there for lodging. :)

Healdsburg would also be a good base for a day trip to Mendocino and some of the great wineries in the Anderson Valley along the way.
