The Pacific Coast Highway California

Have 2 days to get from Groveland Yosemite to San Francisco. Should we travel down to San Simeon/Morrow Bay area staying overnight, then back up to Big Sur Redwood Forrest area and stay at Monterey. We need to have the car back by 11am the next day? 2 Aussie's travelling..

When is this? access through Big Sur from the South (San Simeon/Morrow Bay) is closed for maybe the next year due to a slide. I would spend 2 days in Monterey. Lots to do there, and you can access most of Big Sur from the north that way. FYI Highway 1 is only called "The Pacific Coast Highway" in Southern Calif. In the rest of Calif. including San Simeon and Monterey it is just call Highway 1.

Agree drive to Monterey spend 2 nights there. Drive the open part of the Big Sur 25 miles south of Carmel and back

The old growth redwoods are near Santa Cruz at big basin and Henry cowell

More of Highway 1 should be open on the north end by the time of your visit, so I would stay in Monterey in order to see that stretch, which is more scenic anyway.
