Getting to Laguna

Traveling today from Santa Monica to Newprt Beach. Staying 2 days then headed to La Jolla. How might we fit a visit to Laguna in? Best times with traffic? Thanks!

Just drive south on highway 1 from Newport. It is a short drive. If you go later on a staturday parking in Laguna is a pain. I would worry about that then traffic. It does back up on weekends as the day progresses on the connector into Laguna beach but not so if you come down hwy 1

The Festival of the Arts is on in Laguna Beach right now. And the nightly Pageant of the Masters. This evening will have terrible traffic from Newport to LB on Pacific Coast Hwy (PCH). It's probably not something you want to do.

Your best bet is to get up in the morning and head to Laguna. You'll have better traffic and easier parking. Have breakfast and walk around Laguna. Either tomorrow, Sat, or on Sunday.

And then, if you want, you can go to the Festival Art show which opens at 10:00am.

Or go to the Sawdust Festival. They are very near each other so you can walk and don't have to move your car.

I was in Laguna Beach last Friday evening and wisely approached it from the south and then came north on PCH. My cousin drove south from Corona Del Mar expecting a 15 minute drive and it took her over an hour. The traffic going south was practically stopped. So, I would take elizzie's advise and go VERY EARLY. Go for breakfast, park in a lot with "by the day" parking and spend the day.
