Transport to Disneyland

We are staying in August at the Hyatt Regency and plan on spending a couple of days at disneyland. Can anyone advise on the approximate cost of a taxi there, as well as an approximation of the journey time? Thanks.

The Hyatt Regency in NPB is a location that is not a good place to stay without a car. There is nothing to walk to in the back bay except what's right there. If you had booked yourself in Newport Center / Fashion Island (Marriott or Island Hotel) at least there is a choice of about 4 different bus lines there. But the Hyatt is a bit far from there to get to every time you want to go somewhere.

I don't know where you want to visit in your 2 wks at the Hyatt but you can see there is not direct bus transportation. Here are a few examples

You could walk to Balboa Island (no bus)

Having a car to get around at least for part of your visit (most ?) is the way to go. I don't think you'd find yourself on the wrong side of the road. There is always a car in front of you to follow. It might be different on country roads where you'd be tempted to veer on the wrong side. But not really on well traveled roads with lots of cars.

I uzed to drive from Newport to the area by Disneyland daily for many years. I found it easier to take the surface streets and avoid the hassle of the 55 and 5.

From Newport Island you can take MacArthur Blvd. to Fairview. right on Fairview to Garden Grove blvd. left on Gsrden Grove and a right on Haster to Katella. Time is about 40 minute s.

Sorry that's Fashion Island. Newport Island is in West Newport.

I suggest that you call the concierge desk at the Hyatt Regency. There are many visitors who don't feel comfortable driving in California. They can give you prices on shuttle and car services that will drive you over to DL and the prices for each service.

There are benefits to being dropped off and picked up. No wasted time parking and no lengthy walks or parking shuttle rides. You can be dropped off and picked up near the front entrance, worry free. You've spent a healthy sum for a nice vacation. The small cost of a car service for one day will not make a big difference in the total cost of your trip and will make life much easier for you.

Thanks for all of your comments. We have decided to wait and see when we get there. If the roads look ok and we feel comfortable, then we will get a car. If not, we will take taxis.

Having just returned from the UK and driven from Manchester to the Lake District, Manchester to York and back through the north of the Peak District, Manchester to North Wales to Dorset to Stonehenge to Heathrow, I can assure you that once you adjust to the left-right issue, the driving in the US is much less challenging with wider roads, etc. The worst you will see is congested traffic with stop and go but nothing like driving in London. If you end up driving it should not be all that bad.
