Silverado Trail Wine Stops...Picnic Supples

We are planning on doing the Silverado Trail on this Sunday. Where can we stop and put together a small picnic with crusty bread, cold cuts, and drinks? Shall we do it in Napa before heading north? or is there a store on the trail? What wineries would be best to stop at going north from Napa? Thanks for the info Dave in Honolulu

There is only one store on the entire length of Silverado Trail, Soda Canyon Store, not too far north from the intersection at Trancas in Napa. We love Soda Canyon Store and get breakfast or lunch there at least a couple times a week. It's certainly no Dean and DeLuca in terms of variety or merchandising (in fact, it's pretty rustic, the "anti-Dean and DeLuca"), but they make superb sandwiches, offer daily specials and a limited selection of Mexican dishes (e.g. burritos, etc.), have picnic provisions, hot & cold drinks and a good selection of wines.

It's a very popular stop off for visitors heading north on the Trail out of Napa. Unless you're really picky or looking for fancy meats and cheeses, Soda Canyon should work well for you.

There are other options in Napa itself, depending in where you're starting out from, if you're looking for a broader selection of deli items. Let us know, and we can add to this list.

Heading north on the Trail, you will pass by many, many wonderful wineries, let us know the type of wines you like, and we can suggest some good stops along the way.

Stock up in Napa- the Oxbow has the Fatted Calf and Model Bakery, there is a deli on Trancas called Genova, or the deli on Monticello Rd- called Monticello Deli :)- Vallergas, Safeway - they also have a deli.
