Best beaches Between Laguna Beach & La Jolla?

We will be staying in the Palm Springs area in early May. We plan on taking a day trip to drive to the coast to explore a few of the Southern California beaches. I'm thinking maybe something in the Laguna, San Clemente, Carlsbad-Encinitas, and maybe La Jolla area. What 4 beaches are a "must" see in those areas?

Thanks for your help in advance!

It really depends on who is in your group and what you'd like to do/see at the beaches.

IF you just want scenery you could really pick any of them.

La Jolla Cove is more like northern Calif. or Maine with small rock enclosed(cove) beaches where you can see seals and pelicans in their native environment. There is a grassy park above the beaches and a sidewalk that goes alongside. There are restaurants and upscale boutiques and art galleries.

Laguna Beach also has restaurants and art galleries to visit while you are there.

Other beaches mentioned are wide white sandy beaches where parts are for surfers and parts are for swimming.

Crystal Cove is unique and it is on our own list to visit but we haven't gotten there yet.

Since you are driving from a real distance to get to the beach I suggest you pick one that is convenient and not try to visit too many. The drive from Palm Springs should be at least 2 hrs.!

If what you want to do is play on a wide sand beach then any of the beaches in Encinitas, Carlsbad, or Oceanside should do just fine. All are very nice. The beaches mentioned by others are wonderful, too.
