3. Re: Guachipelin activities

I am considering staying at the RIU Palace and want to do the Zip Lining (Canopy Tour) and Hot Springs there.

They say roundtrip it is $185 for transportation and then the activities is $50 a person and $20 for the Hot Springs.

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32…

Does anyone know if the RIU have the excursion to go here for the activities so that I can book when in Costa Rica vs having to book beforehand?

I am sure the RIU can make this reservation for you. I am pretty sure that the $185 is for the day pass that includes zip, tubing, horse, mud bath, hot springs and lunch as opposed to just the sip and mud/hot springs. The $185 also includes transport. You may be able to get it cheaper somewhere else as hotels usually are more expensive but it will not differ by a tremendous amount.

Most companies build in the commission into the price so even if you go direct, it is the same price for the activities. It is $90/person for the day pass at Hacienda Guachipelin with all the activities, whether people go direct or via an agency. Hotels, for some reason, tend to up-charge for everything, world wide. The $185/person probably includes transport. It is no mystery that agencies make a commission on things they sell. You make it sound like they are doing something wrong or scam-my. Agencies usually just try to make things easy for the client, one-stop-shop kind of things to book a variety of things across may operators. Are there agencies that up-charge, sure. But not all of them. :)

Just ask for discounts when you pay in cash….most tour operators willing to give you a break…since that brake most of the time is less than what they pay to middle people…just ask for discount…it is nice to try!!
