Pinewood village and excursions

Hi

We are going on honeymoon to the pinewood village in september, 3 day safari and 8 days in the hotel. I was wondering if it was best to pre book any excursions or book when we arrive? We have booked with hayes and jarvis and i cannot see day trips and excursion on their site like other travel agents such as thompson have.

We were also wondering if anyone has any recommendations??

Any help would be greatly appreciated??

Hayley

Rest assured Hayes & Jarvis will have a Rep at Pinewood, even if on a part-time basis. They will not miss the opportunity to sell you Trips !

Why not go onto the Websites of some of the Agents recommended on this forum (Glorious, HITS or JT etc) and look at their Day Trips. Compare their prices. They are usually cheaper than the Big Tour Operators and more personal. (Freddy from HITS has an office 10 mins from Pinewood.)

Would recommend Wasini Island for the day and Mombasa City Tour.

For a Mombasa Tour you will find it cheaper and more convenient to book a local Taxi for the day. Have the number of a reliable driver if you need it.

Would also recommend an evening meal at Ali Barbours. (google Ali Barbours Restaurant). They will send a courtesy car to pick you up at Pinewood and drop you back. Hotel Reception will book it for you when you are there.

If you book locally the money ends up in the local economy.

Shop around and get what you want - not want the Big Tour Operators want to give you.

Whether you book before you go has equal merits. Your money - your choice.

Enjoy your Honeymoon - Pinewood is ideal for that.

Hi,

If you are including a safari in your 'excursions' what many Brits do is book a holiday package that covers flight and hotel then they book the safari separately. This has the advantage that you do not have to pack and vacate your room when you go on safari.

You can do this when you get there from local operators who often have reps on the beach (beach boys), you could do it with your Holiday company's rep (not recommended same safari - much more expensive and the profit doesn't stay in Kenya).

What many people do and is probably best, (unless you know your local tour agent / beach boy and know what you want to do), is to book with a local outfit but do your research, compare itineraries, costs, etc from the comfort of your own home by email. It saves you from wasting valuable holiday time tying to find a deal and you can also ask for advice on whether the itineraries are practicable and the prices reasionable by asking about them on this forum. there are several companies that are regularly recommended on this forum.

As for other types of excursions, day trips, etc it will be cheaper to book locally with local operators, they will be the people that the Holiday company would book you with anyway

Although I like Shimba Hills I wouldn't bother if you have already done a 3 day Safari elsewhere.

I know that other posters have said dont bother with the likes of Shimba if you've been on safari already but I have to disagree a bit with that- depends on what you are wanting for a trip. Yes you wont see many animals in Shimba Hills but it is a lovely days outing, great scenery, change of scene from the beach and if you stay overnight at the Lodge, then thats an experience in itself! If you've ever wanted to fall asleep to the sound of pond frogs, 1000 x over....or feed a bushbaby on your dinner table....

Same goes for the Sable Valley Treehouses, just outside Shimba- a truly lovely overnight stay- great views fromthe treehouse, superb service and a really romantic experience all round- with a jacuzzin on your deck before dinner...with bubbly...

Mombasa is a great day out- make sure and include Akamba wood carving factory- and lunch on the Tamarin Floating dhow if you can get it- the seafood platter is a joy to behold......

Anjoy whatever you do! we;re headingout ourselves in a couple of weeks time again and cant wait.
