Selfr Drive Safari with Travel Adventures

All, Be advised of this marvellous way to explore Botswana. Travel Adventures are very accomodating and well equipped and will provide you with an excellent quality 4x4 vehicle in which you take to the roads (or not) and explore as you go absolutley anywhere. Nothing beats this experience. Nothing.

We hired a 4x4 for a week on our honeymoon and it is most definitley the best part of our 4 week african adventure. I can not recommend it enough and Travel Adventures were so helpful after we had tried already with several self drive companies before. It was a late booking, awkward itiniary but they sorted us out. EXECELLENT company and FANTASTIC experience.

THANKS !

Where did you go on your self drive? And how did you find the campsites? Thank you, Cherie

We also used Travel Adventures Botswana for our self-drive safari from Maun to Kasane in August. We were extremely impressed by the fantastic service. To begin with, we had left it very last minute to book anything apart from our flights- we contacted Travel Adventures (on the recommendation of another company who had no cars available at such short notice) just 4 days before arriving in Maun. Pieter-Ann, whom we spoke with at their office, was extremely helpful, professional and efficient- she arranged a 4x4, equipment, and all our accommodation bookings. This was an effort given that most campsites in Chobe were fully booked and we had a tight time-frame (4 days to explore Okavanga and Chobe and get from Maun to Kasane).

On arrival in Maun, we were met by the Travel Adventures representative who took us to our car, and went through all the details, equipment and 4x4 driving instructions with us. He too was very professional and thorough. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a gift from the company (we were celebrating our anniversary)- a nice way to start the holiday.

The car itself was fantastic- we had a Toyota Landcruiser- a very powerful car (and only got stuck in the sand once!) which was in good condition. The equipment too was impressive- the tent was easy to assemble and everything worked perfectly. Only suggestion would be to include a torch - we found the iphone torch was not quite sufficient for sussing out how close the hippos grunting by our tent were!

We were met again at the airport in Kasane by another representative- to drop the car off to him before getting on our flight home. Again he was professional and efficient.

Overall we were delighted with the service and would definitely recommend Travel Adventures Botswana to anyone planning a trip to that beautiful and magical part of the world. What a fantastic safari!!

Again, where did you stay? What did you see? These posts seem more like advertising for the company mentioned and contrary to TA guidelines.

These posts do seem odd when in August(peak high season) the campsites and accommodations in the most popular Botswana parks have been booked out nearly a year in advance, and poster 2 just pitched up 4 days in advance.

Tour Operators book out Camping Sites well in advance, in the hope of selling the places as part of a tour, so the fact that Travel Adventures Botswana had space reserved only four days prior to arrival is not necessarily "odd"

The fact that Tour Operators do this is irritating for individuals wanting to book Campsites, but the 'upside' is that Campsites often have space available if one just 'turns up' - even when they are showing fully booked.

Tour operators do not book camp sites out like they used to in the past, prior to privatization of DWNP campsites in 2009. They are now required to pay up front for them like normal tourists. Sure, there are some no shows, but not like the old days, and especially in high season, when there is a lot of people pitching up in Maun and Kasane hoping for campsites in the parks.

We have just completed our 6th self drive safari in Botswana using Travel Adventures land cruisers and camping equipment. The trip covered Nxai Pan Game Reserve and Moremi (Third Bridge camp site). All bookings on the ground were made in advance by Travel Adventures on our behalf. The camping equipment is comprehensive, compact and carefully thought out. The vehicles have always been in excellent order and contain all necessary tools including satnav and satellite phone. Crucially Travel Adventures provide backup support if the unexpected occurs. Botswana's wild areas ARE wild and we would not expect to be able to enjoy this environment without that level of support. We rate the organisation and its motivation very highly and look forward to future safaris.

We have Self-driven 4WD’s all around the world (Asia, Americas, Middle-East and many times North, Central & South Africa) and we can say hands down, Travel Adventure Botswana is one of the finest companies with great people working for them we have every had the pleasure to work with. All the professionalism one can expect, from new 4WD’s to arranging hard agendas, but what makes them really stand out is “service support” when things go wrong. There was always someone on “stand-by” and even in a remote place we were able to find a welder for a non-critical item (broken spot weld) code 2, that would have made our trip less enjoyable had we not been able to repair it. What is a day of your vacation worth (cost) if who you rented from you cant get on the phone or they cant support you where you are?

Best advice we ever got about renting 4WD’s, “rent locally, where people have the recent driving experience and real time local contacts...” not only are your park fees cheaper for entry to Botswana national parks with a Botswana registered 4WD, think like the local police would when having the choice to pull over a south african registered 4x4 or a Botswana 4x4? Several guides and park rangers were impressed to see the Travel Adventure Botswana, Maun registration, happy to know there was a good company locally with a positive reputation.

From hand over of the 4WD to having clean and modern equipment We are already looking forward to our next African adventure and looking forward to renting again with Travel Adventure Botswana (TAB)! Thank you to all the TAB team!
