yes, it is within walking distance of the restaraunts and bars.

we stayed next door at The Beverley HIlls, it is a little cheaper and I preferred the layout than the Oyster Box. The King of the Zulus is a regular at the Beverley Hills and was there during our stay, so lots of police and outriders with flashing lights etc.

Be aware that both of these hotels hold functions, so you might not get the peace and quiet you are expecting, although the fuction was over before midnight. .

Interesting Gem. We have stayed at BH and really enjoyed it, loved the room view. For next time we were looking at Oyster Box for a change just for a one night stop, might reconsider staying with the familiar. Were the rooms very different?

hi Sandmans

I would check out about the functions before making your choice. We had a similar experience in Vietnam, we chose a top of the range hotel for a rest from touring only to find the hotel wast hosting a Korean Company's Staff Reward do, the karaoke started around midday , speeches and applauses followed for hours , then the disco got going at FULL blast into the early hours . We mentioned (not complained) at Reception that perhaps in future they should email other guests warning that there would be such a huge a function. To give them their due, they upgraded us to a fabulous suite at the furthest point away from the function for the rest of our due. compl

I didn't get to check out the rooms in the Oyster Box, just the public areas. The photos of the rooms at the Oyster Box do look lovely.

thankyou for all of your useful posts on game viewing, you have cleared up a lot of confusion regarding the Kruger 'proper' and the surrounding private reserves.

we will be in SA in November/ December for 5 weeks , including staying outside the Kruger in Hazyview and 2 days in Addo, can't wait.

Thank you Gem. Its only one night so not a big deal,I am sure both would be ok, but good point, we might contact them about functions. Our main concerns this night will be secure parking and a restaurant.

Glad to be of help, sounds like you eventually settled on somewhere near the park, that’s great, you will love it.

Hi Lucy,

We have stayed at the Oyster Box twice and are hoping to stay there in January 2017. It's a fabulous hotel and we could not recommend it highly enough. It's an old building and is full of charm with nooks and crannies and not to a purpose built concrete box! The rooms are on the small side, but perfectly formed. Bathrooms are big and luxurious. Staff are beyond excellent. The service really is excellent. The breakfast buffet is amazing, and wait till you see the afternoon tea!

What we like most about the hotel is it's proximity to the village of Umhlanga. It's about three minutes walk to a variety of pubs, shops, laundry etc.

We stayed here last year on Valentine's Day and there was a large function in the hotel that night, We did NOT hear one single sound....perhaps the fact that this is an old building means that all the rooms are well sound proofed.

Stay at the Oyster Box . It's really such a treat. You will love it.
