We are planning a visit to Corcovado National Park for January 2018. We are travelling from Panama, via Paso Canoas by bus. Our idea is to stay one night at Puerto Jimenez, catch a collecivo the following morning to Carate, stay two/three nights in accommodation close to the park, arrange a couple of day trips while we are there. We don’t want to stay inside the park (preferring the comfort of better accommodation) but thought that the Carate area might present better wildlife spotting opportunities than other locations. We are then considering getting the bus to Bahia Drake via Puerto Jimenez for another two/three days, before continuing our travels North in Costa Rica.
Would we get a different experience in Drake to justify the effort and time taken to get there or should we consider just one location for a longer break?
