hotel on Redang island

hello :) we are working our way along the planning of our 6 week itinerary and have finally gotten to the relax portion at Redang Island. We are hoping for a nice enough hotel on the beach and with a pool. We seem to have narrowed it down to Laguna Redang Island resort or Redang beach resort. Laguna looks a bit nicer but its for sure a bit pricier. We will be here for 7 or 8 nights.... Anyone been to either and have any tips?

thanks

jacqui :)

Laguna definitely. But if it's too painful on the pocket then you can try Redang Beach Resort though the service and rooms aren't as good.

They're basically on the very same long stretch of beach so there's no location advantage to either.

If you want more privacy and seculsion and can't afford the expensive Taaras, try this:

https://wisanavillage.com/the-resort/

It's on its own separate beach to the south of Pasir Panjang where Laguna and Redang Beach Resort are located. That stretch has 9-10 resorts, the Wisana stretch has only 2. The Redang Mutiara Beach Resort there is very budget-friendly but between the two, I would go for Wisana.

Holy cow - I just looked at this and it’s gorgeous! There is not a pool but being that you are situated directly on the sea front and they only book a max of 36 guests I don’t think we would miss having a pool. Can’t quite sort out what the total price would be for 8 nights so I’ve sent a message off to them … hope it’s good news lol!

You also confirmed what I was thinking about Redang beach resort. I think we will either pick Laguna or this one. Thanks for such a great tip đź‘Ťđź‘Ť

It's directly opposite a famous sandbank called Pulau Kerengga - as a bonus!

You can paddleboard across to it from Wisana.

The hotel got back to me and they are fully booked for the first 2 nights we wish to stay - we were wanting to book 8 nights ... this is our relax do nothing but swim, sun, and sleep portion of the trip!

I have been booking hotels/flights/etc as we go along since its such a long trip (6 weeks.) So we cant change anything up until this point - only after.

We are flying into KT on Sept 14 and have a hotel booked there with the plan to be to go to Redang on the 15th. Now that the hotel is booked until the 17th i have a dilemma!

We can either stay 3 nights in KT OR we can head to Redang and go to the cheaper one - Redang beach resort - and do a 2 night package there before moving onto Wisana. Would there be anything to do in KT for 3 nights?

As well we may stay an extra night or 2 at the Wisana as its so lovely and because we would be arriving 2 days later than planned. If we do that we would have to take days off the end of the trip.

After leaving Redang We have 3 nights allocated for Penang and 3 night allocated for KL. Could we knock a night off one or both and extend the Wiseana? Or would one really need 3 nights in Penang and KL?

Thanks Juniper for the reco for this place - and the advise !!!

Jacqui.

I would definitely not lose a night for either Penang or KL. Three each is pretty much the bare minimum.

On the whole I'm going to say "no" to Redang Beach Resort, lol. Despite the cheap price. The Wisana will be a better experience and you should go there straight.

Personally, 6 days on Redang is enough for me, as besides snorkelling, jungle trekking etc. there is little to do there. You can try a trip over to Lang Tengah Summer Resort (on the next island) and ask if you can join their night snorkelling:

https://www.summerbayresort.com.my/travel-malaysia/night-snorkeling/

But I know for some people, 2-3 weeks by the beach are even better, so it varies!

KT as a town doesn't have a lot for tourists (well, try the food - keropok lekor or nasi kerabu (try Fauzi Nasi Kerabu) but if you really want to go off the beaten track then do a day trip into Terengganu state. Some thought starters:

Thanks ! My problem is flights are booked into KT for Sept 14 and a hotel booked for that night… with the expectation that we would go to redang on the 15th.

We are TOTALLY going to book Wisana BUT they can’t take us until the 17th… and we can’t change our plans to arrive later.

So where to go for the 2 nights before we go to Redang? We can either stay in KT or go to another place on Redang for 2 nights…

Ok - so we won’t skip any nights in Penang or Redang… but will shorted Wisana! So many places and so many plans it’s hard to get it all together!

Personally, I would use KT as a base for the 3 days.

Maybe spend 15th exploring the town (nice mosques etc) and food. Local markets maybe.

16th - one day trip from the list I gave you?

17th - travel to Redang.

Sure thing!

Within KT itself (sorry - it's in Malay orginally but I just accessed the English version via Google link. The grammar may therefore be weird, here and there : )

The Crystal Mosque is pretty famous. There's also (surprisingly) a Chinatown area (it's a very Malay state, population-wise.) Can check out the food options there as well, perhaps, but I would still try the nasi kerabu, nasi dagang and lekor first as those are native to the area.
