Visit Hokkaido

Hi, I'm planning to visit Hokkaido in 2007 but can't decide when to go-Feb or Mar. We would like to see snow so will it be snowing till end of march? Is Sakaura viewing in early April?

Hi Nice.Angel,

It is very hard to estimate when Sakura, cherry blossoms, would open. Are you planning to see Sakura in Tokyo? If so, sometime between the last week of March and the first week of April may be a good time to visit Tokyo. However, April would be too early to see Sakura in Hokkaido. Please read

As it will be a plenty of snow in Hokkaido in March, you may want to spend a few days (?) in Hokkaido around mid/end-March and another few days in Tokyo at the end of March or at the beginning of April.

Hi Edokko,

Thanks for your reply! It's great to hear that there will be snow in Hokkaido in Late March as well. Will try to plan my trip to coincide with sakura viewing in Tokyo.

Any places that i should not miss in Hokkaido or Tokyo?

The answer really depends on who you are and your schedules. How many days will you have in Hokkaido/Tokyo? What would you like to see or do in Hokkaido/Tokyo?? How young or active are you???

Assuming you will arrive at Sapporo, you may want to visit Otaru, Noboribetsu, Lake Toya, etc. If you are young/active and have enough days, you may want to go to Niseko or Furano for skiing/snowboarding. Hokkaido’s ski/snowboard resorts offer the best powder snow in Japan, great for both beginners and experts. Please take a look at

There are a lot to do/see in Tokyo besides Sakura watching. If you’ve never been to Dianeyland, spending a day (or two) at Tokyo Disney would be a lot of fun. Shinjuku, Harajuku, Asakusa, Roppongi, Ginza, Tukiji, etc. are popular places among first time visitors. Please take a look at

If I were you, I may stay in Hokkaido at the end of March and in Tokyo for the first week of April. Don’t forget to read TA’s Hokkaido Forum and Tokyo Forum because you can get a lot of helpful info on Hokkaido/Tokyo.

:-)
