Money changers, taxi and other things

Just wanting to know whether there is a money changer at KK aiport. Also what would the cost of a taxi be from the airport to the Hyatt? Finally, we would like to see the organutangs and I understand one of the resorts has a small zoo, what would a taxi cost from the Hyatt to the resort where we can see the organutangs?

Thanks

Hi Resordanis

There are money changers at both Terminal 1 (main) and 2 (for low cost carriers), but the one at Terminal 2 closes ridiculously early sometimes - around 9pm. Not sure about closing times at Terminal 1. There are ATMs at both as well which takes Visa & Mastercard from where you can draw money - but make sure you bank is expecting the transactions.

Taxi from either terminal to the Hyatt will cost RM30 - you buy a coupon from the taxi counter and hand it to the taxi driver outside.

There's two places to see orang utans in Kota Kinabalu.

The first one you're talking about is actually a 'sanctuary' located at the Rasa Ria Resort. Ask the concierge at the Hyatt to phone the day before and book you a spot - there's 2 feeding times per day and they're quite popular. Entrance is around RM65 last time I checked and the taxi there should cost around RM40 - RM50 one way.

The other place is the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park which is a proper zoo. It has an orang utang exhibit and quite a few other animals. It's an approx. RM25 taxi ride away and, I think, RM15 or RM20 entrance.

Thanks for your reply eastofwest, just one more question. Can we use Australia dollars travellers cheques at the money changers and if so will they charge us a commission or are we better of with just Aust cash.

Thanks

You willnot get as good an exchange rate with travellers cheques as with cash. Just take cash.
