Gocek

Looking at doing our holiday next May in Gocek but need some info please. Is there enough to keep us occupied for two weeks? Like to go walking and explore. We will be relying on public transport so can we get out and about in the day. We don't want karioke bars, tribute acts and full English anything. Also need basic apartment not to far out of Gocek. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

We loved Gocek - it is small and quiet, but you're just a short hop away from Fethiye and places like Calis Beach etc. We didn't see a single English breakfast while we were there, nor karaoke bars! I would definitely return, but I think I'd do what we did this year again - spend a week there and a week somewhere else. We stayed in a lovely little family-run hotel, but wandering around the resort, there was no shortage of nice looking places to stay.

Thanks blondiescot. Haven't been to Gocek for thirty years since I worked in Fethiye. Been going to Dalyan for a few years and Kaş 37 times in the past Just want somewhere unspoilt so it was between Akyaka and Gocek so may do a week in Gocek and a week somewhere else. Definitely won't be going to Calis 😬

Do a week in Akyaka and a week in Gocek then - that sounds like heaven to me!

As blondie has said, you are only a dolmus away from Fethiye (don't worry - you can close your eyes as you drive through Calis - although it is an awful lot better than it used to be!) You have the 12 Island boat trip - not so much motoring as you have to do from Fethiye as the islands are all nearer at hand to Gocek - a lovely day out, with good lunch included. You can walk all along the front and then inland through the trees to Skopea Marina (to West of bay), and take the free boat service back. Take the little boat over to Gocek Island - a lovely little beach and swimming here is like swimming in a very big rock pool! But otherwise (and unless you want to pay the entrance fee to D Resort beach - beautiful but expensive!) you would want to make sure your accommodation had a pool if you like a dip. Most certainly NO karaoke, Michael Jacksons or Tina Turner (except the latter might be visiting in "real life" as many famous folk do through the summer!) Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants along the front and a lovely "prom" for people watching, and a number of cheaper food places off the main drag. For accommodation - there are a number of apart hotels in the village, and also a lot of apartments on sites that tend to be the other side of the main road: a stroll into town, but many are up hills so you might want to take a taxi back (costs normally 15TL) - but as up high, afford lovely views over the bay! Loads of supermarkets and bakals and a couple of butchers and greengrocers for self catering.
