Hi,

For transport to Kanchanaburi and beyond just show up at the bus/railway station before travelling and buy your tickets. Nothing to worry about!

You can get a ticket from the bus station at Sai Tai in Bangkok. You buy the ticket from the booths upstairs and buses are every few minutes. Journey takes two hours. Cost is 110 baht. On arrival there are motorbike sidecar taxis that take you the extra 2 km to your hotel or guesthouse.

Right now I am staying at Smiley Frog ( previously called Jolly Frog) It has very nice 320 baht bungalows which you can get for 300 if staying several days.About 100 meters away is Sugar Cane with wooden bungalows for 150 baht. Both places have friendly staff and good food. If you like cocktails try out the " Get Drunk for 10 baht" bar in the same road ( opposite Easy Bar). You can hire bicyckes for 50 baht daily just along the road. The famous bridge is less than 2 km away and the Death Railway Museum and the war cemetery is just a short walk around the corner. If you want to go on the train over the bridge and go all the way to the waterfalls at Namtok it costs 100 baht each way and the journey is two and a half hours each direction with beautiful views. You can see the river, jungle, old bridges and a Buddha in a cave from the train window. At Namtok it costs 20 baht for a songtaow to the smaller waterfall.( Namtok Saiyok Noi).

There is no problem doing things on your own in Kanchanaburi because you will meet lots of friendly people when you are here.
