Hi,
My husband and I will be arriving at KNIA on 8 Nov at 1235pm.
How much does it cost to take a direct cab from KNIA to Parapat?
Is there any sharing system? We need to catch the last boat ride to Samosir at 6pm.
Please Advise..

The cost of a private chartered car operated by one of the transporters based in Parapat is these days Rp 550.000,-- (transportation only)
The ride from the Airport to Parapat takes some 4 to 4.5 hours.
The cost of a shared taxi operated by one of the transporters based in Parapat is now Rp 75.000,-- per seat. You may have to wait at the airport for quite some time for fellow shared taxi passengers. The ride itself takes also some 4 to 4.5 hours. (Transportation only)
The last passenger ferry from Parapat (Tiga Raja Harbour) to Tuk Tuk, Samosir is at 19.00 h.
HORAS !!! HORAS !!!! HORAS !!!!. WELCOME TO LAKE TOBA
or you might consider taking a normal taxi or the damri bus from knia to amplas bus terminal for buses to perapat
August 30th I took a share taxi from Kuala Namu to Parapat.
I'd booked the share taxi thru the guesthouse (Romlan) I'd made a reservation at. Marion at Romlan booked me with Bagus Taxi. I was quoted 80K.
Flight arrived at 11.30am. Thru immigration and customs by 12.30. There was only one other passenger (a local) so Bagus "offered" the rate of 500K to be split between the two of us- making it 250K each. I paid 250K but as the local rolled his notes together into a tight wad I really have no idea how much he paid. Am not complaining, as 250K was certainly cheaper than paying for the whole car.
The drive took just 4 hours with no stops.
I used a scarf to filter the cigarette smoke from the driver. Must admit I requested, before agreeing to the two- passenger-share "offer", that the passenger NOT smoke ( spotted his overflowing ashtray as he finished his cigarette before leaving the coffeeshop). So just one smoker to contend with.
Hi Experts of Medan,
Am too travelling to Medan with another 2 backpackers this November. Wondering which one is best in terms of times and/or price to Parapat from KNIA. My flight arrives at 830 am and would like to reach Parapat by 2 pm if it is possible.
1. KNIA direct to Parapat with shared taxi (if there is, can you suggest the company name and telephone number if available)
2. KNIA - Medan Train Station (via train); Medan City - Parapat (Sharing Raja Taxi)
3. KNIA - Medan Train Station (via train); Medan City - Parapat (Bus at Amplas)
4. KNIA - Amplas Bus Station (via airport bus); Medan City - Parapat (Bus at Amplas)
Thanks.
Rozita
The train is a poor joke, the airport is between Medan and Parapat, but to catch the train you need to head back towards Medan, in the wrong direction.
The best option is to book the 550k car and split the cost between the three of you. Maybe you can find someone else at the airport to share the cost.
Otherwise going to Amplas by bus is the best option. Amplas is in the wrong direction (back towards Medan), but it is easy enough to do this and you can also find the bus easily there.
You could try getting a taxi to Lubuk Pakam, which is about 10km from the airport, and from there pick up the public bus from Medan to Parapat, but if you are going to do that it's probably just best to pay the full price to parapat
Hi folks,
We are a family of 3 arriving at Kuala Namu AIrport at 19:10 (7:10pm) on December 22nd from Denpasar Bali. We are absolutely new to the place and are tourists. I do not mind taking a private car that may cost me 550k. But I have a question: Is it too late to travel the same night to Parapet? I guess we would reach parapet by 23:30 (11:30pm) or midnight or should we just stay in a hotel close to the airport for the night and start our trip early morning. If so, can someone suggest a near by hotel? How early can private cars start in the morning? Thanks for your help in advance. Raj
there might be a guest house or somesort but i have no idea. the area is a dead zone before the airport came along so as you can imagine there are no infrastructure there to support tourism (yet). your best bet is get into Medan and find a proper hotel to stay.
you will get into the city on jalan SM Raja. this is the backpackers central for medan, but mid range hotel are available here as well. Garuda Plaza hotel is one of the old fav here. or Grand Antares which is a few click closer form the airport than GPH
There is a guesthouse near the airport.
I think your best bet is to go to Parapat direct from the airport. You can stay there one night and then be on the island bright and early in the morning. I wouldn't bother staying in Medan, you will lose a day travelling.
if you book the whole car then they will start at your requested time (prob ask for extra charge if its too early)
