Are some parts of the beaches in Sanur private??

Just been reading about the beaches in Sanur, which parts are the best and most clean. Can you sit anywhere on the beaches in Sanur or are the beaches in front of hotels private. If not, are you allowed to pay and use their sun loungers or are they for guests only. This is our first visit to Bali.

Hi, the beach front hotels set up sun loungers for their own guests to use. There are some hotels which will allow outside guests to use their facilities but you must enquire with each property as not all allow this. You can walk along the beach footpath at any time as access to along the beach is allowed and they will not stop you swimming in the sea but you cannot just stop and use their loungers etc.

There are a number of local restaurants and cafes that have sun loungers and umbrellas to rent at rather cheap prices. These work out to be good value as they will serve you drinks and food as you request and you then pay your bill at the end. You will see signs up as you wander along the beach. Have you booked your accommodation yet?

Even though these resorts call the beach in front of their property, "private", they do not and cannot own the beach. It's not permitted under the law. So strictly speaking their beach areas aren't private at all, it's not owned by them, it's owned by the Balinese.

That being said, they do own the sun lounges, umbrellas etc.

I like the area just south of Segara Village (north of Bonsai Restaurant), it's a wide stretch of sand and is fairly open for use by the public.

Although hotels do have their own tables, sunbeds and parasols for use by hotel guests on the beach outside the property, you often see people putting their towels down on the beach outside hotels.

Yes you can rent sunbeds no problem, if renting from a hotel expect to pay around 50000Rp (includes a pool towel) each.

However, if you're in south Sanur, there are heaps of sunbeds for rent just past Stiff Chilli. Expect to pay 30000Rp for a pair of sunbeds and a parasol here. Sometimes the local looking after that bit of beach will also encourage you to buy some jewellery, sarongs etc from their stall. Look for the sign that says "Bad Rox Beach", and bag some sunbeds there. It's a well kept bit of beach, and you don't get any hassle from the lady who looks after it. You can buy drinks and very basic food from the shacks at the rear of the beach there.
