Hi, we're staying in Melia at the moment, which is very large but set in amazing gardens. We are in a pool access room (1115). It is a fabulous room right on the end of the block, so very private, and two steps down to the pool. It too is also set in beautiful gardens. It is also one of the most expensive type rooms. My first impressions on seeing the main pool etc was dislike - huge sprawling place with no grass. However, the beach is great when the tide is in, with sunbeds and beanbags to lounge around on. The food is remarkably good, especially at the beachfront restaurant. We are on an all inclusive package so have the choice of four restaurants, and unlimited alcohol if we choose, apart from top shelf brands. The Melia has the usual large resort activities, and free use of bikes and paddle boards. It is across the road from Bali Collection shopping centre, which has loads of restaurants. It's very handy being so close.I was dubious about this place at first, but sitting in total privacy and peace under the shade of a frangipani tree before I go for a swim, it is heaven. And after all that, can't advise you on the others, sorry.😀😀 It all depends on your budget, but they are all good resorts.

PS it has a good kids club, and a pool table and outdoor chess for older kids.

Hi holidayfan,

are you already booked?

Is this a Hotel being "pushed" by a Holiday booking Company in the UK.

If you do your Research you may regret booking any Hotel in Nusa Dua.

May as not bothered going to Bali at all all the way form the UK if you end up in a Nusa Dua Hotel for 2 weeks on AI.

If you want more info I suggest you give an idea of how Long you wanted to stay and what your interests are and what you intended to do when visiting Bali..

e.g. an "avid" scuba diver from London has just booked a Holiday in Benoa only to find out they've made a wrong decision as they now can not get out of the booking.

Nusa Dua is just full of 5* AI style Resorts with often Little to nothing outside of them and is in the least ideal place to do anything other than being in the Hotel.

7. Re: Mulia , Melia or Noosa Dua Beach and Spa

Hi holidayfan,

Never assume.

You can go to Nusa Dua (if you must) but please don't expect beaches like in Thailand or caribbean.

Nusa Dua has the best maintained beaches but the beaches from where I'm from (in Cornwall) are Better.

Don't go AI and have a look around.

Hotels along Jalan Pratama actually have stuff outside.

This is the part of Jalan Pratama that goes north of the Melia.

If you are happy ot walk you will find a number of places to eat/drink within 1km walk north of Melia.

The Grand Mirage is the best located for having bars/restaurants, minimarts, local shops, money changers and tourist booth.

The other best area is by the Ayodya hotel. This hotel IMO has the better beach area than in Benoa.

Also the Jalan Mengiat (road that goes inland over the roundabout) has a selection of places to eat and drink and local shops. The Jalan Termpong has a number of Minimarts and an official "Central Kuta" Money changer.

PRICES TAX AND STUFF

Nusa Dua is the most expensive area of Bali.

Tax can be added to any bill anywhere. This can be up to 21%.

Some bars/restaurants have tax included but this is quite rare in Nusa Dua.

In general named spirits and normal wine is expensive.

In places like Kuta or Sanur can expect a Gordons or Captain Morgans to start around IDR60k ~ £3. in Nusa Dua expect a lot more.

A Glass of ordinary Australian wine can start at IDR100k ~ £5.

This bar on Jalan Pratama (near the Conrad) has prices that some might consider more "normal" prices especially for beer at IDR24k small and IDR36k large and tax is included. It is ~ 1km north of the Melia.

https:/…menu2_beerwine.html

Compare this to the "Pirate Bay" prices where a large beer is IDR65k and small IDR39k and you get the idea of Nusa Dua prices.

8. Re: Mulia , Melia or Noosa Dua Beach and Spa

Post no 7 has lots of useful information. We are off to Bali again soon for trip no 13 and are starting at the Grand Mirage on Jl.Pratama as we like the position of this hotel opposite lots of good restaurants where even over cautious people like us eat. Our favourite is Bali Cardamon. We then are off to Tuban and Sanur before coming back to Nusa Dua for a week at the Ayodya. We have stayed there before too using a Scoopon deal. Look up these deals. They are in Australian dollars but we are able to purchase them in New Zealand but need to use an Australian phone number to get the booking to go through. The lady at Scoopon help desk said it is okay to just make one up but I have a daughter in Australia so I used hers. We ace also stayed at the Inaya Putri and Melia and would return to either of the too. Don't be afraid of eating outside the hotel. Just use your commonsense. We are not as adventurous as many tourists we see! When cleaning teeth or making a cup of tea in your room use bottled water. Ice is safe these days and salad ingredients are washed in clean water. Standards have changed enormously in the last 20 years. Nusa Dua and Benoa are good destinations for first timers who often find Bali a bit overwhelming so don't let people put you off the area. We always spend part of every holiday there. The Mulia hotel is a bit remote and is aimed at super wealthy patrons. I have walked through Nusa Dua Beach Resort and Spa and it looks a bit tired although a friend went there last year and said it was okay. They had a suite though. Not as convenient position for restaurants and bars outside the hotel. The best part of the beach is in front of the Inaya Putri and the Ayodya next to it.
