Bali Belly when you return home?? Any suggestions???

Returned from Bali Thursday 27th October. Son had terrible bali belly on the Saturday, took the Immodium tablets which cleared that part up but he continues to have really sudden pains that come and go. Husband now has the same thing a week after coming home.

Anyone else experience the same thing? Not sure if I should take my son to the Doctor or will it just clear up? I have some Amoxil antibiotics in the cupboard, should I just try my son on those?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rest, plenty of fluids, and take son to doctor. DO not diagnose this yourself and giving antibiotics is not a good idea. It sounds bacterial and I have also had a dicky belly for 3 weeks since I returned. I doubt it is serious but you need to seek proper help, not people on a forum who will all have different advice and plenty of personal stories. :) :)

Keep all hands clean.

Thanks guys - that was my plan but thought there might be some "miracle" cure since it takes 2 weeks to get into my Doctor!

Hi Transformer

We returned on the 28th Oct and have the same thing. Hubby still has it and so have I. I went to the doctors on Monday and he prescibed some medication to take. Not Amoxil!

Go to another doctor, you don't have to wait 2 weeks.

Bali Belly is often confused with Traveller's Diarrhoea.

The symptoms of BB are abdominal pain (in waves), nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

The symptoms of TD are sudden abdominal pain, cramping and explosive bowel movements.

Don't guess, go to the doctor.

Exactly, don't wait 2 weeks. See another doctor....different ailments need different antibiotics. For it to be passing on to others....it could also be a bug.

If it is Bali Belly, Miracle cure = Stop eating.

I find a day and a half works, then only plain rice or plain toast for the first meal to see how I go. Keep up your fluids, if you can.

Absolutely go to the doctor, our doctor takes six weeks to get into!! But she would see us straight away if the kids were that sick and we had been traveling.

I once had a really bad bug from Bali many years ago I left it thinking it would go and ended up dangerously ill.

Hope your guys are better soon:)
