Aurangabad to Khajuraho

Hi, planning a trip to India in Nov. I want to visit Ajanta and then go to Khajuraho, before heading to Varanasi.

Are there decent trains going that way, or do I need to go back to Mumbai and fly? On the map I see train tracks going to Satna - is that as close as the train goes, and could I hire a car/driver from there?

There is a train to Jhansi from where you can then drive to Khajuraho (4hrs) or take a connecting train.
