Where to go?

Hi everyone!...

We're planning our first trip to Fiji. Dates aren't flexible - will be travelling Nov. 26 to Dec. 11.

Question: Had wanted to go to Taveuni, the "garden island" after reading how beautiful it is....but am now concerned about this being the rainy season. One website said we should stick to the Yasawa and Mamanuca island chains which are drier at this time of year....any comments?

Hi Brisner

Depends on the type of holiday you're after.

Mamanucas and Yasawas are great beach destinations. Many family resorts, budget resorts for young people and a few top end adults only places too.

Taveuni would be great if you love waterfall hikes and walks. Depending on where you stay, the beach is good as well. You will have to fly domestically from Nadi International Airport to Taveuni. Most resorts in Taveuni are honeymoon oriented.

Agree with Kent27209....depends on what type of holiday you are after. Couples or Family? Relaxation or Adventure? Also budget might come into play. Some resorts are much cheaper than others.

If you want picture postcard beaches then you have to get of the main land and stay on an island. If you want adventure then it is best to stay on the Coral Coast or Pacific Harbour.

Also be careful if you don't want heaps of kids running around as a lot of resorts and family orientated....best to try and find an adults only one.

The simple fact is that you will get more rain at that time of the year, especially on the eastern side of Fiji.

Rain doesn't have to be bad. You can still do plenty of activities. Why don't you split your trip up and do one week Mamanuca/Yasawa, one week Taveuni? That way you are bound to get some sunshine : )

Hi Brisner

Do a week of Mamanuca /Yasawa and a week of Taveuni - you will get really great dives on Taveuni and sun, sea and sand out Mamanuca or Yasawa way

Nov is the beginning of the wet season in Fiji so you are still bound to get caught up in rain some days - but the great thing about Fiji is that the rains are very warm!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone!....Travel agent is suggesting a split trip also. Matamanoa Island and Matangi Island....websites look great for both of these resorts. We're hoping to dive 2 or 3 times while there and just enjoy the beach and beauty of Fiji. Can't wait...thanks everyone!
