not big on resorts....choices??

Planning a trip the last week of July. I am not into all inclusive resorts. for the past 5 years I usually backpack around various countries but stay in siutable hotels (3-4stars). we are looking for a place that is nice but not super expensive, where we can snorkel/scuba dive, some night life and experience a little of the culture Fiji has to offer. I was thinking of spending 5 days of our trip on an island and 3 days somewhere in viti levu.

any suggestions?

thanks!

Hi faith,

the islands are amazing, but the mainland has so much to offer as well, you cant go wrong on the Coral coast for your 3 days and cant recomend highly enough Hideaway resort, only because ive never had an experience like it since (the staff are so friendly) and it realy is relaxing. Fiji is beautiful, no matter where you are. PS just come back and getting ready for next trip, have fun in july, Clint.

Hi faith w16

The snorkeling on the main land isn’t great but there are lots of dive operators if you want a smaller resort on the coral Coast have a look at Bedarra Beach Inn or the Crows Nest both are on road that runs along the beach near Sigatoka between the roundabout and the Outrigger there are several Fijian owned restaurants nearby and a dive operator just down the road in the village near the roundabout. Also the Hideaway was very nice when we stayed there several years ago a bit more up market than the other two.

First landing resort near Latoka is very good and has their own dive boat

You will find great snorkelling at Bounty island. The accommodation is a bit basic though, and they do not have much of a night life. Plantation Island has a decent night life (albeit a little tame!!), cheap diving (about FJD$100 for a 1 tank dive), free snorkelling trips and reasonably priced 3 star accommodation. You might like sonaisali on the main island, or head down to the Uprising at pacific Harbour for horse riding, white water rafting and zip-lining (and shark diving if you are brave!!).
