best area to stay?

Hi we are travelling to Singapore for 6 nights this October with our 2 sons for their 18th & 21st birthdays. Can't wait but don't know best area to stay? Fancy Sentosa Island but also like the idea of being central too! Even thought about 3night in each area. Any recommendations of Hotels too please. Thanks very much :)

If u can afford hotels in Sentosa, I would assume at least a 4* range. Central area hotels include Carlton Hotel, the Residence at Recreation Club or Peninsular Excelsior Hotels, all these are near Cityhall MRT. Or Swissotel Merchant Court at Clarke Quay, near Singapore River n walking distance to Chinatown. 5* centrally located hotels include Swissotel Stamford, Fairmont, Pan Pacific, etc.

We stayed at the Swissotel Merchant Court at Clarke Quay when we were there last month. Its a comfortable hotel and Clarke Quay is a vibrant area at night, also it is quite central. Large mall the "Central" just across the road and near the metro. You can also walk to Chinatown from there.

If you intend to stay in Sentosa, there are plenty of great hotels to choose from at the Resorts World Sentosa. You can even have a blast at the Universal Studios theme park.

If you want somewhere in the city centre, and can afford the cash, suggest a stay at Raffles Hotel. It will be a memorable stay.

Thanks very much , everybody, for your advice. Really appreciate it. Would love to stay in Raffles Hotel but it's working out MEGA expensive for 2 rooms! Like the sound of Clarke Quay so will have another look at hotels there. Thanks again folks :)

Clark Quay has plenty of resturants and bars. I dont think it will be partucularly novel to anyone from major westeren city which has plenty of this already. The area is also relatively dead during the day time. If you would like to enjoy the night life in the area, there is certainly no need to actually get a hotel there.

For something a little different try a couple of room in a upmarket boutique type hotel. If you rather a 5* type place, the PanPacific Marinia is always a good bet.

Make sure you head down to La Pa Sat for atleat 1 night time meal with Satay and they might enjoy a meal in a proper seafood resturant at the Eastcoast seafood centre too (taxi ride)
