Airport cigarettes and liquor

We will visit Singapore for the second leg of our trip, after visiting the Maldives.

Iv’e read you can’t bring duty free cigarettes into Singapore, but if we have some packages left from the Maldives, should we throw them before our flight? Or if it’s few packs unsealed it’s OK?

Also, is it possible to buy cigarettes (a pack of 10 packages) and alcohol at Changi upon arrival into Singapore, before heading to our hotel? Since we prefer not the buy them in Male airport so we won’t have problems with customs.

You can bring cigarettes it regardless if they are duty free or duty paid or where you bought them. You will have to pay tax on any cigarettes you bring into Singapore. Tax is per cigarette. It does not matter if the pack is open or sealed or 1 or 200.

You are are allowed a duty free allowance for alcohol. You can buy this in Changi on arrival if you wish.

There's zero DF allowance on tobacco in Singapore. If you bring cigarettes ( open or unopened pack) you are to pay duty per each gram, go with the red channel.

There is a DF shop in Singapore airport on arrival, right next to the luggage collection, you can buy booze there ( per DF allowance), but not cigarettes.

So if we have cigarettes left, we just go through the red line and pay tax for them? No beed to throw leftovers and buy again in singapore itself?

You can store them in a left luggage locker (airside) if you want before passing Immigration & Customs. Whether this is practical depends on which airport terminals you are landing at & departing from.

Yes, no need to throw away your cigarettes, if you are ok to pay duty.

The rule of thumb is that SG Airport don't sell duty-free cigs for arriving passengers. But if you have some from your country of departure, then you should declare it and pay tax for it. That is because cigs and alcohol bear taxes in Singapore... and it's rather heavy fine if you are caught by Customs officials smoking duty unpaid cigarettes in Singapore. The officials are roving around the island in plainclothes so you may not recognise them.

Cigarettes must have a SDSC stamp printed on it.

Best if you don't take the risk of taking duty unpaid cigarettes into Singapore. It's not worth it.
