Where's a nice place to try Ice Kachang? I remember eating an ice dessert with lotsa stuff and ice on top and creamed durian topping years ago (is that the same), also read somewhere there are some with mango cream toppings. Any specialty resto or place that serves a nice variety? And is there a place thats open til late night? (Hopefully around Orchard - or better yet near Hangout! :p

Hi impulsiveT,

good thing no need to hunt for it =). it's a dessert available at most 'Kopitiam' food court. Nearest to Hangout, there is a 24-hrs 'Kopitiam' that serves ice kacang with durian puree, mango ice-creams, etc. With durian puree is (IMHO) the best of the lot... =)

walk towards Rendezvous and walk along bras basah road, its the next building.

=)

Hi impulsetraveller

It's Me^Only again!!, ahahaha ^____^

(1) Best Ice kachang & Other Desert (In Chinatown)

What so Good? Oh the very important Brown sugar Syrup that All Ice kachang must have, the Uncle at this stall does NOT dilute it like other do & it so good. I love the Plum drink too (Dark colour, cold)

Blk 335 Smith St #02-115

Chinatown Complex Food Ctr

Time: 0800 - 1800, Off on Tue

How to go? take bus 190 from Rendevous Hotel and stop at the 5 or 6 busstop infront of CK Department store and Blk 335 is just next to it).

If u rushing, this few places in town is equally good too:

(2) Food court at the basement of Scott Shopping (Picnic Food court)

(3) Food court on the 4th level of the now Revamp Marina Square mall.

===> This have Yummmmmmmmy Red Ruby Desert with Jackfruit (Cold) and the Yam Paste with Ginko Nut (Hot).

Grab a nice seat facing the Esplanade & U have a really good nite view from this Food court.

(4) Near Hangout (On Selegie Road, There is this Stall that sell really good sweet bean Curd & Soya Bean Milk Drink).

Have a good time Chomping...........

Nice to know theres a 24hr kopitiam(across Rendezvous) that I can walk to from Hangout (can I really? - or just right for me to get hungry and chomp away?!).

By the way sincerely, what does IMHO mean? Got lost a bit there when you mentioned about the durian puree hahaha.

Hi ImpulseTraveller

Ice kachang in Chinatown sometime open till 2000hr during weekday when business is slow.

Yes, U can walk from hangout to the 24hr Kopitam (Food court). From hangout, down Selegie Road, than walk to Rendevous Hotel (which is on the corner of Bras Basah Road & bencoolen street)The Kopitam is actually below a Building call Plaza By the park.

IMHO could mean In My Humble opinion.

Hahaha, I forgot about that! I forgot what that meant thinking it might be a code or initials of an establishment. Sorry bout that! :)

Thanks for your humble opinion all! I really value them and will definitely try both. (Oops, that just gave the impression that I'm really off to a chomping adventure hahaha!). I have developed an acquired taste for durian (and I sometimes crave for durian ice cream!) and I'd go for that. I think I'm familiar with the Kopitiam near Rendezvous and can definitely go there once I get my bearings on Hangout's location. But I do hope to catch the one in Chinatown too!

Thanks for helping me out with my food questions. I got a bit disappointed from an email I received from Makansutra.com yesterday. I inquired and got so excited about their Makan Safari food tour which I came across the uniquelysingapore page, but from their email it sounded like it actually is not a regular tour, unlike other tours where one can easily join in. I know Singaporeans love to eat, looking at the variety of influences and the different cuisines available. And Singapore food is one unconquered area for me. Thought the Makan Safari thing was my chance given my rushed schedule, too bad though.

Anyway, I guess for me, the 24hr Kopitiam would be the way to go! But I'll make sure to make Singapore food places a destination in itself in my future trips.

Many thanks again to all of you! Hope to get my fill of Ice Kachang in 2 days. :)

Oh wow! Am checking out the wineanddine site. Wow! I think I'm cutting short my visit to Darth Vader to try a lot of food places.

Am feeling I'm going to be really adventurous this time. Was particularly curious with two entries there - the Durian cake at Goodwood Hotel and the durian and chocolate(initial reaction - eww!) at choc.a.bloc, though the latters review seems old and I visited their website and they dont have anything durian in their cake list anymore.

Oh my. I hope the front desk people of Hangout would have the patience to be able to answer all my questions on how to go to this place, to that place, etc. Waaaaaahhhhh!

Still on asiaone site...

Was really relieved to find on of the to 10 chocolate desserts on their list is a dessert at Wild Rocket at Hangout!!! Whew, at least I wont be travelling far for an item on my list hehehe.

I hope I won't need to ask anybody this - where is the nearest hospital for an emergency case of super heavy tummy?! :p

I guess the walk up to Hangout would be good for me...
