Two itineraries. Which one to follow?

Hi everyone

I am very thankful for all the answers to my previous questions. I have also read other posts on tripadvisor and kind of made these two itineraries. Please guide us which one is better or any changes you recommend Or may be mix and match. I apologise for a long post. Thank you .

Flying on 16th April from London - 17th April Morning Osaka.

17th to 21st April- Kyoto (5 nights) with day trips to Nara, Himeji castle and (Hiroshima/ Miyajima island optional).

We are not sure to cut one day from Kyoto to visit Hiroshima/Miyajima . Though we would love to visit there.

22nd to Kiso Valley ( Magome & Tsumago)

Evening train to Matsumoto, spend night there.

23rd April- In morning check out Matsumoto Castle and then take a bus to Komikachi. Explore area . Stay for a night.

24th April after breakfast move to Takeyama- Explore Takeyama. Spend the night.

25th April - Morning Bus to Shirakawa go . Explore village by afternoon then take another bus to Kanazawa. . Spend night there.

26th April- Take train /bus to do Toyoma Alpine route. In evening head to Shinano Omachi. Spend 2 nights in there.

How long does it takes to cover the whole route? Should we just aim for snowwall in Murodo or the whole route is recommended?.

27th April- If possible rent a car explore Nagano cherry blossom

and also been recommended Alps Azumi no Koen, Lake Nakatsuna, Hanamchi na sato . Night in Shinano Omachi .

28th - 1st May- Tohoku(2 days Aomori and 2 days Akita)

1st to 5th May - Tokyo 3 days in Tokyo ( with day trip to either Lake Kawaguchiko, Ashikaga Park or hitachi Seaside Park / Azalea festival)depending which one is in bloom.

6th May- morning flight to London

Landing in 17th to Tokyo. Travel to Kawaguchiko, spend 2 nights in there(17th -18th April)., If blooming is early next year , like this year, will we still be able to see any blooms ?

If weather is not good we might not be able to see Fuji too. So that’s a gamble too. And I think it’s too early for Shibazakura, What I read it’s best to be seen from late April to mid May .

Travel to Kyoto ( 5 nights) 19th to 23rd April with day trips to Himeji/ Nara.

Travel to Hiroshima/ Miyajima (24th April)

Travel to Kiso Valley ( 25th April)

I think it’s a 5 hour train ride.

Two options after that:

Travel to Matsumoto (26, 27, 28th ) Alps, cover Matsumoto , Kamikochi And Takayama or May be Shirakawago?

or Travel to Tokyo (26th, 27th April)check out Hitachi park/ Azalea festival or Wisteria park . If it blooms like normal unlike last year.

Move to Tohoku for (4 nights) - either (29th, 30th, 1st and 2nd) or(28th, 29th, 30th, 1st).

Remaining days in Tokyo till 6th May morning.

I did read about the Cherry blossom forecast last year at Hirosaki and Kakunodate on Japan Guide and it says that full bloom is usually around 25th, 26th April . Will it still be in bloom in late April or early May according to both the itineraries ?

Do you recommend 21 days JR pass or the different area passes will serve us well the areas we are covering.

Thanks a lot once again for you time.

Don't know about the rest of it but i strongly suggest that you stay in Hiroshima one night, stopping at Himeji for 3 hours on the way. This means you will arrive in Hiroshima early afternoon which gives you enough time to visit the museum and memorial park. Next day visit Miyajima, leaving luggage in station locker and continue your travels late afternoon.

Thank you. Yeah that’s a good suggestion but that would mean we will reach late evening at Kiso.

Thank you

First Option:

April 17:

April 17 is too late to see Cherry Blossom in Kyoto, not only this year but also in usual years, when even late-blooming Blossom bloom until April 12-15, as follows.

You should see this site in the next spring to check if you can see the late-blooming Cherry Blossom at Japan Mint in Osaka, where you can see the latest blooming Cherry Blossom in Kansai Region. We could;d see it until April 17 this year, about we don't know about the next year.

Here is my report this year.

April 27:

You cannot see Cherry Blossom in Nagano on April 27: at nowhere but North Tohoku Region in late April.

April 28:

The possibility of being able to see Cherry Blossom is high at Hirosaki in Aomori, and Kakunodate in Akita Prefecture in late April.

Second Option.

April 17:

It's too late to see Cherry Blossom in Kyoto and Tokyo on April 17, not only this year, but also in usual years, as follows.

If you want to see Cherry Blossom in Tokyo and Kyoto, you should at least come in the first week of April.

Here are the places where you can see late-blossom in Tokyo and vicinities, but April 17 can be still late for these places.

April 28:

I think you have the best chance to see Cherry Blossom in North Tohoku Region, such as Hirosaki, Kakunodate.

Here are my advices to other persons regarding Cherry Blossom, for your reference.

4. Re: Two itineraries. Which one to follow?

Thank you for all your help.

Thing is we know we will be late for Kyoto(Kansai Sakura bloom). We are ok with that. My main difference in two Itineraries should we land in Tokyo on 17th April and head to Kawaguchiko for 2 nights. But I am not sure is it worth is if weather is bad or flowers bloomed early like this year.. or land at Osaka head to Kyoto and then head to our second itinerary.

Please can you have a look once again to both the itineraries. They both are different and I am ok not seeing cherry blossom in Kansai because I am heading to Tohoku in late April for that. Please have a look at them and help us decide which works out better.
