Snow Monkeys from Akakura (Myoko-Kogen) or go to Shibu Onsen

Hello, as part of a 3 week itinerary I have allocated 3 nights in Akakura (Myoko-Kogen) for skiing with the family (we will be travelling from Kanazawa). We want to take the kids to see the snow monkeys, so were wondering best option:

(a) stay extra night in Myoko Kogen and take day trip to Shibu Onsen for snow monkeys?

(b) move to Shibu Onsen after Myoko Kogen and stay one night (or 2?) to see snow monkeys

(c) other option?

What are the transport options from Myoko Kogen? I can see most suggest the need to catch train to Nagano and then onto Shibu Onsen. What would the cost be to get a car/driver or day tour from Myoko Kogen to Shibu Onsen for our family of 4. If price in same ball park a 40 minute road trip as opposed to transferring on train, then obviously shorter trip would be preferable.

We are heading to Tokyo for final part of our trip, so if a night in Shibu Onsen would work and if it is an interesting place in itself to stay, then this may be a consideration.

Thanks
