Itinerary advice - onwards from Hiroshima?

Hi all, I'd love some advice on our itinerary.

So far we have 3 nights in Tokyo, 2 nights walking the Nakasendo trail, 3 nights in Kyoto, 1 night in Hiroshima/Miyajima...[GAP]...1 night in Fujikawaguchiko, then 1 night in Tokyo before flying out of Tokyo early in the morning the following day.

We originally had Takayama in the gap but I think the travelling will be too long. We are currently considering Osaka but not sure if it's worth 2 nights? I'd also love to fit in Naoshima but I don't think it works.... Any advice? We will have JR pass for 14 days.

Thanks!

Some ideas. On Honshu, going back towards Osaka: Okayama, Kurashiki, Himeji (castle), Kobe, Arima (famous hot springs resort between Kobe and Osaka).

Or from Hiroshima, go over to Shikoku and visit Matsuyama and Imabari (both castle towns), plus other places that many foreign tourists don't visit.

If not in the schedule, highly recommend to stay overnight in an onsen town. You would have several choices.

You could add more nights in Hiroshima and use Hiroshima as a base for day trips to Miyajima, Mitaki Temple, and Onomichi.

Why doesn't Naoshima fit?

In any case, I vote for Okayama/Kurashiki and Himeji/Kobe.

Thank you! from what I could see the travel time to Naoshima would be too much? What would be the best route to go to Naoshima?

I would get to Naoshima from Uno Port, and to get there is by JR from Okayama. Naoshima Travel Information should be able to provide info on access and on accommodation. Pricey, but high culture. Not a usual suspect tourism adventure.
