Ogoh Ogoh parade

Can anyone tell me what towns have the Ogoh Ogoh parade on the night before Nyepi? And at what time does this festival occur on March 11th? Is it at different times in each place?

Our plane lands at 1pm on the 11th and I'm just trying to figure out where (what town and hotel) we should stay in so that we can get to the Ogoh Ogoh on time.

It's always on everyyear at bakungsari-kartika plaza street kuta (near matahari square mall). The closest hotel is ramayana, kuta beach club, kuta paradiso etc. it starts from 5pm so make sure you arrive at your hotel before 3pm since many roads in Bali will be blocked. Therefore i suggest you against staying at the hotel too far away from airport, otherwise u'll get ur trip to the hotel distracted by road blocks.

It's all over Bali. Every village will have a parade.

Just pick a hotel and ask where the nearest parade is.

Every small community makes an Ogoh Ogoh they then parade around the local streets.

There are certain to be several in and near Ubud.

I would be amazed if there was not one right in front of the markets in Ubud.

I would not suggest that you taxi or go by car. First it would be very difficult to get one late in the afternoon of the parades. Secondly traffic is horrendous and many streets are closed off - even the main streets.

Best to walk to the closest parade.

We were at the Holiday Inn last year during Nypei and had great plans of going into Kuta to watch the big parade. Gave up on that idea in the morning when we quickly went in for some supplies. Traffic horrific and we were told most resturants would be closed and we would find it diffucult to get a cab back to the hotel. Holiday Inn had their own Ogoh Ogoh that the staff made and they had a ceremony at the front of the hotel and carried the Ogoh Ogah around with all the pomp and ceremony of a bigger parade. It was fun to watch the staff being involved in such a serious event. We plan to be back there this year for Nypei.

After being in Bali for Nyepi in 2012, I would suggest you would need to book a hotel close to the airport in Tuban (south Kuta). And also arrange for the hotel to transfer you from the airport. You don't want to have to travel too far once you have arrived! As others have said, traffic conditions will be horrific.

Most of Bali starts shutting down the day before so the people can return to their villages for Nyepi day, so this means not many taxis being on the road and many restaurants and shops are already closed.

Our hotel last year also did its own Ogoh Ogoh which was fun.

Bare in mind that whever hotel you choose you will have to book 2 nights as on Nyepi you cannot leave your hotel grounds.

Actually it all over Bali. But for the biggest and they usually do a contest for the Ogoh Ogoh Parade on that day, You need to go to Denpasar, (not tourist destination) but it's really happening. Go to Alun-Alun Puputan (Puputan Square), Jl Gajah Mada/Jl Suprati but make sure you will be there around 6/7 PM because lots of streets will be shut down on that day during the Ogoh Oogoh Parade. You won't miss it :)

OR if you are in Kuta you can see in central of Kuta alongside Legian, Seminyak * Kerobokan too. But make sure you might be stuck in where you are on that day or you can walk around the city with those and make sure you get your Obor / Traditional Torch :)
