OMG !..............have them out at home (Australia), get put under, then 10 days later go to Bali for a holiday to recover ! Would not ever, even, no way in a month of Sundays, do this in Bali.....why ???? bcos its cheaper ? Our hospital system here has that covered. :-S

I am not disputing ^"vicki t" , that there are not great /good dentists in Bali, for cosmetic procedures especially, that are less expensive to have there. But , wisdom teeth, is something altogether diffrent. Even here it is a delicate procedure/ OPERATION, and a general anestheic is required. And there is no charge to have it done here thru the public system. Like why ? I cannot phathom the need to even contemplate this extremely painful procedure in a foreign country. (Thats not unless you had no choice). :-)

If an anesthetic and OT procedure is being considered then do it at home.

If an 'in the chair' procedure is being done then again, do it at home.

It can be done in Bali but the recovery period is going to most likely be unpleasant and painful.

It would be a memorable trip overseas for all the wrong reasons.

If she needs follow up after going home "straight after" then there will be a gap in the treatment history and anyone who examines her in Australia with be second guessing the 'history' of the procedure.

Infections can occur and pain management can be an issue for some people following a Wisdom tooth extraction, especially if more than one is done.

The probabilities of complications logically increase when there are more extraction sites available for those complications to arise from.

If this is being done for reasons of cost management then examine the pros and cons very critically.

She was thinking about getting them all out on her last day before she flew home to Australia . I wasn't even sure if you are suppose to fly after that sort of procedure . My daughter had hers out in hospital here and they were very painful and awaken and she was allergic to the pain medication . But my niece just thought it would be a cheaper option and also want an excuse to go to Bali again. She thought she could kill 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak

Hi Sandy

The risks involved are too great! Infection being the main concern in my opinion. MRSA (methycillin resistant staphylocci aureus) is very easily contracted even here in hospital theatres.

The post op pain can be very severe and ongoing.

It would be questionable whether travel insurance would cover repatriation to australia should the need to arise, as technically it is a "pre existing condition" which would have to be declared and also the intention of having the teeth removed in Bali.

Whilst I have read many posts praising the excellence of dentists in Bali, I would err on the side of caution and have the procedure performed in Australia

My daughter had her wisdom teeth out last year in Perth. While the procedure went well she ended up dehydrated because she slept so much afterwards even though I was constantly there with a bottle of water whenever she came to. She then became delirious and had to be admitted to hospital where she was put on a drip over night and given antibiotics, just in case. It was pretty scarey and I was glad to be at home. This was without any complications with the procedure. I would definitely consider having treatment at a Balinese dentist for other things but not wisdom teeth.
