SIM cards at airport or in town

We're flying to beijing next week. We have unlocked cell phones and are hoping to buy SIM cards upon arrival. We just need them for calling our hotels, guides, directions, within China.

Is it best or easiest to buy them at the airport?

Please advise about the best type of SIM card, available plans and prices.

Thank you.

There used to be some China Mobile tables selling SIM card in the hall where you wait for your luggage. However I have not seen those for a while.

You will be able to buy these easily in town and your hotel concierge can direct you to the nearest spot. You can buy them at many newstands where you see a lot of phone numbers. How much you pay for the SIM card will depends on how "good" the number is but I suspect that you don't care. The cheapest SIM cards can be found at the China Mobile services halls but these places are not always easy to find.

Forget about plans. Nobody in these places speak english and the brochures are in Chinese only. It is a prepaid card and you can load it again later if needed.
