Great wall from Novotel Peace hotel in city center

Hi,We are 2 adults visiting Beijing for 2 days in June. We wanted to go to the great wall of China but not spend the whole day with a tour group.

Any recommendations on how to do this ourselves and any reliable taxi drivers who speak English and can take us to the Mutianyu side? Def need English speaking drivers. And what would be the taxi fare to and fro.

Taxi drivers don't speak English, you hire a driver, not a taxi. You can find some here: www.thebeijinger.com/classifieds/cars-drivers

Hi,

Re Taxi, the driver wont speak English and you would need to negotiate a set rate with him before you leave & pay him on your return. Its not going to be a great deal cheaper than hiring your own driver with a more comfy car tho.

Best option is to hire your own driver with nice car to go to Mutianyu. There are drivers on "Things to Do" https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attractions-g… You will also find drivers advertised in the classified section of The Beijinger: https://www.thebeijinger.com/cars-drivers

If you would like my drivers details PM me.

If you have your own car & driver and get an early start to Mutianyu allow 1/2 a day. You might as well keep the driver for the whole day as it wont cost much more. Add in somewhere else like a drive around the Huairu / Mutianyu villages and get some lunch. The Summer Palace is also an option.

There are parts of the Great Wall accessible by public transport.

TSS Very well bought up mention - there are other parts of the wall accessible by public transport. If cost & time ( still going to take a while) is an issue go to Badaling. The Op wants to go to Mutianyu so I concentrated on that, but public transport to Badaling is also an option.

#2 Do you mean Simon as in Simon Cowell's Britain's Got Talent: Susan Boyle to Simon: Simmmon. Desperately need GIF's on TA lol :-D

Or do you mean Simon the driver? https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Re…

Annie.
