St Regis, W Chang'an or Westin Chaoyang

I'm thinking of spending this weekend in Beijing; and I've narrowed down my hotel choices to these three options. How do the three hotels compare in terms of proximity to nightlife; both within and near the property?

Depends on what your definition of night life is. My guess that is a bar area. Check out these hotels against the Sanlitun area and Huhai area.

In terms on nighlife, I would say the Westin but in all three cases it is not within walking distance.

Westin chaoyang is only a couple of subway stops from Sanlitun nightlife. But it's slightly less convenient than the other two for regular daytime tourist stuff.

How's the scene at the W like? Also, I hear cabs can be rather hard to find around the W/St Regis area. Would that be much of a problem on a weekend?

@kvchinaa

Is traffic an issue in that area?

Traffic is an issue in the vicinity of all of these hotels and empty cabs probably more of an issue at the W and the St. Regis.

Traffic is an issue everywhere. My last time in Beijing I stayed at the St-Regis. They will get you a taxi, no problem. They just call one on Didi if they have to.

@kvchinaa

Thanks for the advice. I imagine it would take about 20 minutes from that area to Sanlitun?

I heard even getting a Didi car might be difficult as traffic largely runs one way?

20 minutes to Sanlitun? Depends on time of day.

I don’t know what you mean by traffic running one way.

@JPDeM

Someone mentioned that waiting time for a ride can be 10-15 minutes on the road the St Regis and W is on? And by that I meant that the road was very wide so drivers might make a big loop to get to the property?

You don’t wait at the road, you wait at the hotel entrance door. Either there are taxis already waiting or they call one using an app. I don’t recall waiting long for a taxi but that can vary depending on time of day.
